The Newsletter
We thought it would be a good idea to introduce a
newsletter to circulate amongst existing and past
members. The idea is that we update you on
current “happenings” at the club and of current and
past members. Any contributions would be
appreciated.
The Club - About Lordswood
Dixonians
The club is now nearly 95 years old and we are
approaching our centenary in 2013. Historically
the club was formed by the Old Boys of George
Dixon School and has always been based on the
west side of Birmingham, close to its historic home
in Edgbaston. We welcome new players and the
club’s current membership reflects the
cosmopolitan nature of Birmingham, with
Frenchman, Fijians and Zimbabweans rubbing
shoulders with locally bred players.
The club has a proud history, winning the North
Midlands Cup 3 times in the 70s and 80s and
winning the North Midlands Sevens Cup 7 times.
In 2004 the club formed a partnership with
Lordswood boys school. Together we have
ambitious plans for the development of youth
rugby in the area evidenced by the proposed roll
out of the successful U15 and U12 teams to local
schools. The promotion of the first team to
Midlands West 3 and the proposed investment in
facilities should lead to raucous centenary
celebrations in six years time.

Player Profile
Name – Andrew Yorston
DOB – 3 January 1979
Nationality – Scottish
Position – Scrum Half
Andy joined the club as a fresh faced 21 year old in
2000 whereupon he promptly got injured. This has
been a recurring theme over the following seven
seasons - recent statistics place his participation at
less than 40% of games during this period.
Scrum halves are typically recognised as being “feisty,
mouthy and athletic”. Andy is not familiar with these
characteristics on the rugby pitch but they are
synonymous with his evenings out. In line with many
of his ilk, i.e. Glaswegians, he turns into a foul
mouthed, aggressive lounge lizard whenever he steps
past the threshold of licensed premises.
Andy’s ambition’s this seasons are a) not to get
injured b) not to get married and c) to miss only the
matches which clash with major store openings..
