After a disappointing derby defeat to Aston Old Eds the week before, Lordswood Dixonians returned to winning ways with a hard fought victory over visiting Bridgnorth.

Another dry afternoon met the players at Moor Lane, and conditions favoured Dixies open running game. However, as with other weeks, it took the hosts time to get themselves up and running. Bridgnorth were quick to capitalise on this after a game of ‘hot potato’ on their own goal line between Robbie “Handbags” Holden and Wyse “Sex Pest” Roko resulted in a forward pass and a 5 metre scrum. Bridgnorth duly took advantage and a blindside move saw there scrum half scoot over to give them a five nil lead. Dixies were then to lose Damian “The Veteran” Webb to a yellow card for a head butt in retaliation to a high tackle, although the Bridgnorth flanker also had 10 minutes on the sideline.

With both sides down to 14, Dixies managed to pull back level, following a few quick phases and good hands across the back line saw Roko dive into the corner. Dickon Best added the extra two to put Dixies ahead. Dixies new-found momentum was then halted as the Bridgnorth winger suffered a serious leg injury that was heard by all. After a 20 minute wait for the ambulance to come and go, the game resumed to a shortened 35 minutes each way. Dixies extended their lead soon after the front five won a scrum against the head and Adam “Face” Seymour broke down the blind and put Rob “Everyone loves his sister “ Darbyshire in for the second try of the game. Again Dickon had his kicking boots on as he added the extras.

The second half was not one for the spectators. Bridgnorth, spurred on from some half time words, began to take the game to Dixies and the early second half pressure was all on the home side. They were rewarded for their exploits with two long range penalty attempts though both were missed. As the game became more disjointed as both sides failed to put patterns together, Dixonians lost there Captain Paul Rotherham to a broken leg. Having no other forwards on the bench a quick reshuffle was required, resulting in the brainwave of having the resident non-tackling 9, Tim “Splitter” Hodson, playing at openside flanker. Dixonians showed enough guts in the last 20 minutes and were able to close out the match with the final whistle bringing relief at the victory.
