Dixonians provided last weeks demonstration of running rugby was not a one off with another strong win against a physical Coventry side in the continuing Brummy heat wave. Dixonians got off to a cracking start with Robbie Holden scoring a try in the first few minutes by capitalising on a mistake from the Bedworth flyhalf to kick through to score. Dicken Best added the extras on his first game of the new season. Bedworth responded with a great kick from their fullback, however much like the week before Dixonians backs were creating space at every opportunity. From a scrum in their own half a well executed move resulted in Rob Bell running in from 40 metres, which Dicken converted. Dixonians then seemed to lose their way with some missed kicks at goal and trying to play rugby in the wrong areas of the pitch. These errors resulted in Bedworth scoring a couple of penalties and try which was converted. However with the scrum becoming more dominate it was not long before Paul Rotheram opening his account for the season with a try. Dicken added the conversation and later a penalty. On the stroke of half time, Dixonians conceded another penalty which was kicked leaving the score a lot closer than it should have been.
After some stern words at half time Dixonians got off to a flyer in the second half with 3 tries coming in quick succession. The first coming from a 3 yard sprint by Noel Spillane after some good handling from Phil Kelly and Robbie Holden. Phil then got one of his own following some good phases by the forwards resulted in space out wide for Damien Webb to give a ‘flat’ pass to Phil for a simple run in. Paul Rotheram then doubled his tally which Dicken (finally!) managed to convert. This put the game beyond the tiring Bedworth side and the game began to open up. Robbie Holden got his second by incepting the ball on the half way to score in the corner. Bedworth then managed to pull one back following a series of tap penalties, however Dixonians finished in style with Rotheram getting his hat trick after a cracking break by Dicken from the base of the scrum. |
